How I Can Help

Story Consultation

A focused, one-to-one session to bring clarity to your story — and your next step.
Before we meet, I’ll read your synopsis and an opening sample of your manuscript (up to 6,500 words). Then we’ll spend a full hour together going deep: your concept, your draft’s strengths and risks, and a concrete plan for what to do next.

It’s the perfect step if you…
  • Have an idea or a draft and want a professional read on its potential
  • Feel stuck and need an experienced perspective to get moving again
  • Need a clear, prioritized action plan you can start on the same day

Developmental Edit

A comprehensive, macro-level diagnosis of your manuscript — and a roadmap to fix it.
I read your full manuscript the way an acquiring publisher would: at the level of structure, internal logic, plot, and character. You receive a detailed written editorial letter that identifies exactly where the story loses power — and gives you tactical, actionable suggestions for revision. Once you’ve read the letter, we’ll spend a full hour together on a video call, where I’ll walk you through my recommendations and answer all your questions.

Your editorial letter covers:
  • Plot and structure
  • Character development and motivation
  • Pacing and tension
  • Point of view, tone, and voice
  • Genre expectations and commercial viability

It’s the perfect step if you…
  • Know something isn’t working in your draft but can’t name it
  • Want feedback on the overall plotting and development of your story
  • Are preparing to query or self-publish and want the manuscript at full strength first

Story Mentorship

Write your book with a professional editor by your side — from idea to finished draft.
This is my most hands-on collaboration. We start with a deep-dive session on your concept and structure, and map out a strategy and writing plan. Then, as you write, you’ll have direct access to me in an ongoing chat — and we’ll meet twice more to workshop the pages you’ve written.

How it works:

  • THE FOUNDATION — I read your synopsis before we meet; in our first session we work through concept, structure, strategy, and a step-by-step plan

  • THE WRITING — as you draft, you can ask me questions anytime in our ongoing chat

  • THE CHECK-INS — two further sessions to review your new pages, solve problems, and keep momentum

What’s included:
  • A package of three 60-minute video sessions
  • Ongoing chat support between sessions
  • A living revision roadmap that evolves with your draft

Beta Reading

An honest reader’s-eye view of your finished draft—before your audience sees it.
I read your completed manuscript from cover to cover the way your ideal reader would — without stopping to edit — and report back on how the story truly lands: where I was hooked, where my attention drifted, which characters won me over, and whether the ending delivers on the book’s promise.

It’s the perfect step if you…

  • Have a finished draft and want a candid reaction before you query, publish, or invest in a full edit

  • Want to know how your story reads, not just how it’s built

  • Are deciding what kind of editorial support your manuscript needs next

What’s included:
  • A complete read of your manuscript
  • A written reader’s report covering plot, characters, pacing, and emotional payoff
  • Answers to the specific questions that worry you most

Client Success Stories

Helena Hale

BESTSELLING ROMANCE AUTHOR

I trust Alina with my texts completely. She spots the gaps my own weary eyes can no longer catch, points out the book’s strengths, and helps each story realize its full potential.

Dana Delon

BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Every one of my books has passed through her sharp eye and lively mind. Her criticism is invariably well-founded, tactful, and considerate — and she loves your books as much as you do.

Katerina Traum

ROMANCE AUTHOR

The manuscript is never subjected to drastic rewriting; no one smothers the author’s core idea or style. In nine cases out of ten she takes the author’s side —and in the tenth, she explains why.

Marina Belyaeva

Middle Grade Author

When I met Alina Elkin, I knew at once: this is my ideal editor! Working on the text with her was wonderfully comfortable, and our meeting proved to be a turning point — it led to my first published book!

Kate Summer

ROMANCE AUTHOR

Thank you for such a productive collaboration! It was an enjoyable and, at the same time, illuminating experience. Alina Elkin was not only an editor but, above all, a mentor you could turn to with almost any question.
